Plum and Cinnamon mini cakes

Plum and cinnamon cake | Sugar Thumb

haaaaa. You know that feeling when you write a whole post and then you delete it my accident. That’s how I feel right now. Not a great feeling! Oh well – here goes for post number 2 on plum cakes.

My weekend was a veritable funfair of ridiculous eating and drinking. Waffles on Friday, Hard Rock Cafe on Saturday and mulled wine. Way too much mulled wine. I think I shall just have to continue this way until Christmas. Lebkuchen – which I will be making at some point in December. Little Ginger cakes with jam and chocolate. MMmmmm. I will make them at some point and post them on here for the season!

Hazelnut, Cinnamon & Chocolate Biscotti (!!!)

Hazelnut cinnamon & chocolate biscotti recipe

When it’s freaking cold. When you HAVE to wear socks in your house to stop from getting pneumonia – even with the heating on. That’s when I like to have a cup of black coffee with a biscotti. Hazelnut biscotti in particular – because I love that warming crunchy flavour of a roasted hazelnut!

Plus my awesome friend Teco is leaving Berlin and going back to Brazil – literally SAD times. Such sad times. He gives amazingly long hilarious speeches with very little actual message – politician worthy! So the weekend was spent drinking, eating, being tipsy, being full – and starting again every few hours. Was fab – but as you can imagine, I am worse for wear. So the biscottis helped. I woke up at about 4am – and ate some more of them… and went back to bed. Am I the only weirdo who gets up in the middle of the night and feels hungry? – not so much hungry as – “tasty”.

Cinnamon Churros with Dark Chocolate Sauce

cinnamon churros with dark chocolate sauce

churros recipe

When I left school, I lived in Guadajara (Mexico) for 3 months… and I put on about half a stone. It wasn’t just the tequila and enchiladas that did it. It was the churros too. They were sold on every other street corner at such low prices that they made the perfect (ly unhealthy) breakfast. Now I just have them as a treat now and then! They are the perfect sunday treat – especially if you are having people over for a movie night or some tea and you want to try something new! They go really well with dark chocolate. My flatmate Toby, started nibbling on them before I had put the sugar on.. with some cheese… he claims this combo was nice… although once he had tried the sweet version he changed his tune. If you prefer savory, you can always try them with some cheesey dipping sauce, or sour cream and chive dip! I’m all about the sugar and chocolate.. as you may have gathered by now. I like to think of these as Mexico’s answer to donuts – similar consistency to fried donuts you see…

I got this recipe from Uncle Beefy but I have just converted it into UK measurements for your ease. If you haven’t seen his blog… it is wonderful!!!
