As you probably know, not only is it November, it’s Movember. Although I have a pretty impressive moustache for a girl, I don’t think growing it out would be noticeable enough to raise awareness. So instead, I thought I would bake these cute moustache biscuits. If you’re from the UK, these are actually modelled on the classic bourbon chocolate biscuit, if you have no idea what a bourbon is – you are missing out and should make and eat these asap. They are SO chocolatey without being too sweet. Perrrrfect. Plus they are shaped like moustaches, that’s just hilarious. And yes, I did hold them up in front of my face before eating them as did my flatmates… I think I would look pretty cool with a handlebar moustache.
Now for the recipe for
Chocolate Moustache cookies
250g (9oz) plain flour, plus extra to dust
125g (4oz) unsalted butter, chilled, cut into cubes
125g (4oz) caster sugar
2tbsp golden syrup
50g (2oz) cocoa powder
1tsp bicarbonate of soda
For the filling
125g (4oz) icing sugar
15g (½oz) cocoa powder
2 Roll it out on a sheet of baking paper, trying to keep it rectangular and dusting your rolling pin with flour as needed. Cut the rectangle with the moustache cookie cutter as many times as possible and remove excess dough. Re-roll this extra dough and cut with cookie cutter until there is no dough left. Chill for 30min in the fridge.
3 Bake for 12 min, then allow to cool.
4 For the filling, put the butter into a large bowl and sift in the icing sugar and cocoa powder. Mix until combined.
5 Once the biscuits have cooled, place the filling between two moustache cookies and sandwich.
