Delicious Magazine Bake off Winner

Hi guys,

Sorry for two things – the terrible quality of these photos… I wanted to post about it.. but my camera is awful at showing the text clearly… and 2 sorry that I haven’t posted a recipe since last week… I have been sick. Nothing serious, just one of those fluey coldy heady body-encompassing things, which makes you want to cry when you see food. Also… didn’t want to infect anyone with it, and eating a whole cake could have been a bit much!

Anyway, I am almost back to full health – I will know I am healthy again when I fancy a glass of wine. At the moment any form of alcohol is most unappealing, which is very unlike me!

I thought I would write about winning the delicious. magazine bake off because 1. I am pretty proud of this achievement 2. It was the thing that gave me the confidence that really go for it with the blog. 3. It was so much fun and the delicious. team and the other contestants Maria-Theresa and Nora’s cake were both amazingly delicious so I am going to try and get in contact with them and get the recipes for those. Nora made a traditional Hungarian Christmas cake and Maria Theresa made this luxurious hazelnut and chocolate layer cake.

The Bake -off:
delicious magazine bake off winner | Sugar ThumbSo annoyed that I had my hair in this pineapple like bundle on top of my head. FAIL.
It all started when I was visiting my friend Lucy in Manchester and she went to buy a magazine… I really really don’t like fashion magazines, just because they are boring. I feel like the people who write food magazines are often cooks, chefs etc. but the people who write/ are featured in fashion magazines are not as inspiring and normally not the designer’s themselves, but merely celebrities of little note or really beautiful people – both are not that interesting to read about I find. So, I got delicious. because food is ALWAYS interesting and there really are some fantastic cooking tips, interviews and recipes in there. I saw that they were having a competition where you had to send in a recipe and photo of your cake and the winner would be featured on the cover – after a bake off final round.I entered my apple and caramel layer cake, which was inspired by apple crumble. and… I got invited to the bake-off which I didn’t expect at all. When Meera Syal said that I had won I was shaking… couldn’t believe it. Genuinely didn’t think my cake was good enough, but it shows everyone should have a bit more faith in themselves. oh dear.. I’m getting all corny/preachy… ignore that!

Anyway, you can find the recipe in this Month’s issue of delicious. magazine! Great flavours for Autumn – apple and caramel. You can also read the interview with me on delicious. magazine’s website.

  1. Great Trisha. Congrats. You deserve the best. I always find your recipes very creative. I agree with the judges; the combination you used in this cake is so flirty. Hats off.
